General Policy on Misuse of Drugs and Alcohol
The Rom Group Ltd (the Company) declares that it will adhere to the following Policy regarding the misuse of drugs and alcohol or the abuse of solvents.
The Company notes that it is possible for any member of staff to misuse drugs or alcohol and this Policy applies equally to all personnel.
Since the misuse of drugs and alcohol is most likely to affect the safety of the misuser and his/her colleagues, this Policy is part of the Company Health and Safety Management System.
The Company expects all its employees to be able to perform their duties to the best of their ability, at any time unimpaired by any effect of the misuse of drugs or alcohol.
The Company understands that drug or alcohol dependence is a treatable illness and will regard anyone undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in the same way as if they were suffering from any other illness.
The Company will ensure that all employees with a problem of drug or alcohol misuse will be treated in the strictest confidence and assist them to obtain appropriate treatment.
The Company will not accept onto its premises any contractor or agency staff if there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that the person is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, regardless of the duties the person has been contracted to perform. The Company expects its own personnel to act appropriately in this regard.
The Company reserves the right to:
- initiate disciplinary action if anyone, identified with a problem of drug or alcohol misuse, refuses help and continues to work with impaired performance;
- dismiss anyone guilty of gross misconduct;
- immediately report to the police, anyone suspected of dealing in or possessing any illegal substance.
This Policy will be subject to the same review procedures as other Policies of the Rom Group.
